Our mission statement:
«The YWCA-YMCA Guides and Scouts of Norway promotes and operates guiding and scouting to help young people develop a Christian
faith, and teaches them to think responsibly, to develop independence, to be socially involved, to have an international awareness,
and to respect the values of nature.»
In 2008 we launched a new scout program. We use the same program for boys and girls. All scouting in Norway is co-ed at group
level, but the majority of patrols are still boys or girls only. In the Norwegian language, we have only the term 'speider'
(scout) for all members, young and old, leaders and participants, females and males.
The programme is divided into four different age groups:
Oppdagere "discoverers" 2nd to 3rd grade, 7 - 8 years
Stifinnere "pathfinders" 4th to 5th grade, 9-10 years
Vandrere "wanderers" 6th to 10th grade, 11-15 years
Rovere "rovers" college, 16 (no upper limit, but program aims at 16-22)
Leaders: Our yongest leaders are normally from 17 years old. We have no upper limit for leaders.
Beside this structure, we have a branch named «family scouting», where the youngst children and infants do Scouting-like activities
with their parents and/or other families. We consider this as a good option in rural districts where there are no units nearby.
This is also a way to start new units where there are not enough children and youth to start a full scale scouting unit.
After concluding activities within the programme scouts receive activity badges.
